An ice hockey goalie in white jersey with the number 35, standing in front of the net, prepares to block a shot. Spectators are visible sitting behind the glass in the background.

I started Ice Insights because I kept running into the same problem from every angle. As a hockey dad coaching mites on Long Island, I watched tryouts where the process came down to a few coaches with clipboards trying to evaluate 60 kids in 45 minutes. As a referee, I saw how subjective the whole system can be. And as a parent, I asked the same question every other hockey family asks: Is my player actually getting better?

I played in high school in New Jersey, then at the US Coast Guard Academy, and I've been a referee since 2006 at levels up to college hockey, both in California while on active duty and on Long Island. I still play on the Long Island Warriors veteran hockey team and I'm behind the bench coaching my kids.

My professional background is in technology, so the overlap of hockey and data was a natural fit. Ice Insights is built on a simple idea: every player deserves real performance data, every coach deserves better tools, and every parent deserves an answer to "how's my player doing" that goes beyond the eye test.
